Blue Bar:

Promenade:

FISHING FOR SQUID

You will regularly see men, and sometimes women, with long poles with what looks like a small garden trowel fork attached. They walk along the edge of the promenade looking in the sea for squid. Although the squid can change its colours to help blend in with its surroundings, the fishermen are well experienced in recognising them. The black patches along the promenade are not oil spills but the 'ink sac' from caught squid. (calamari)
The last twelve months have seen a change in the local mayor and subsequently major changes in the village.

The 'boulevard' dual carriageway entering Gulluk is now completed and many roads have been upgraded from tracks to proper highways. A lot of money and time has gone into overcoming local drainage problems by the installation of new drainage systems.

Construction, although slowed down by the economic situation at the moment, has still continued but there are still many incomplete buildings comprising shops and apartments. Whether or not the village can sustain the number of shops being built is another question.

Currently the municipality are improving the gardens from the central tearoom through to the end of the public beach near the Hermias Hotel.

The old 'Blue Bar', closed for many years, has now been demolished along with the single storey building alongside it. It will be interesting to see what will now be constructed here.

The old Blue Bar has been demolished together with the adjacent low level building. Currently an open area with trees and at the time of writing is accomadating trade stands for the Gulluk Festival.

A number of new eateries have opened recently including one next to the Cultural Centre and one by the park next to the port.
